The history of the neighborhood
Rancho Santa Margarita was developed in the late twentieth century as one of Orange County’s youngest master planned cities. Before development, the land was part of the historic Rancho Santa Margarita y Las Flores, a massive Mexican land grant that covered much of Southern California. Modern construction began in the 1980s with a focus on cohesive neighborhoods, community parks, and a central lake designed to bring residents together.
The city was incorporated in 2000 and has continued to grow while maintaining its original vision of clean design, connected neighborhoods, and accessible recreation. Today, Rancho Santa Margarita blends its modern planning with natural surroundings, offering a peaceful and organized environment that appeals to residents seeking both comfort and community.
