Moving to North Hollywood? Here is what you can expect once you get to North Hollywood.

North Hollywood, California, is separated from its more glamorous sister Hollywood by a mountain range. In comparison to its world-famous neighbor, North Hollywood is down-to-earth and a bit more reserved. However, there is still an acting vibe that one might describe as "off-Hollywood," because of the more than 20 professional theatres in its one-square mile downtown core. Los Angeles's version of “off-Broadway” creates stage shows, which include standards and originals, for an active audience who head out to see aspiring actors become future starlets.

North Hollywood, or NoHo is a walkable town with low-key residents. The main strip has vintage boutiques, outdoor cafes, bars, and gastropubs where citizens and residents enjoy the all-year beautiful weather.

The community of North Hollywood along with Northeast and Valley Village has a population of 137,350 people, who have a median age of 34.6. The median household income of the area is $47,591, and the median property value in the area is $484,300. The homeownership rate is very low at only 25.4 percent.

In 1821, Mexico won its independence from Spain, and the land that occupies North Hollywood became a part of the Mexican state of Alta California. In 1846, the current area of North Hollywood belonged to Eulogio de Celis, but when he died in 1869, the family sold part of the land to an agricultural group led by Issac B. Lankershim. At the time, the Lankershim family grew wheat that would eventually become a huge part of the largest wheat-growing empire in the world. In 1887, they established the town of  Toluca in 1887, and the family sold small farms with fruit and nut trees to prospective buyers. Further development included a Southern Pacific Railroad rail line and station in the community.

Completed in 1913, the Los Angeles Aqueduct helped boost more development as people flocked to the area, and a housing boom began, encompassing all of the 1910s and 1920s.

Eventually, the farms and orchards in the area that is now called North Hollywood would step aside to accommodate tracts of land devoted to housing development.

In 1927, the area would officially be named North Hollywood in an attempt to capitalize on the growing notoriety of Hollywood as the center for worldwide entertainment. During and after World War II, the aviation industry developed in Burbank and current and former Navy and Air Force members fell in love with the beauty and the rythem of California, and along with every area of Los Angeles, the suburbs grew substantially to what we see today.
