Union City sits in the East Bay between Fremont and Hayward, a diverse, working community with a practical, accessible feel. Much of the city is flat, with established single-family neighborhoods, townhome and condo communities, and apartments near the BART line and the shopping centers. Homes here are more grounded than grand, and a move usually comes down to clear access and good timing rather than steep hills or narrow lanes. A solid plan still makes all the difference.
A single-family home on a flat street is one kind of job, with a driveway to load from and a simple path. A townhome in a newer community is another, with shared entries and an HOA’s move-in rules. An apartment near BART is a third, with timing and parking to manage. Knowing the home shapes the day.
Royal Moving & Storage works across Union City every week. We start with your address, plan for the building access, the parking, and the route, and arrange what is needed before moving day. The aim is a straightforward, well-run move that fits the practical character of the city.
Union City is a city in Alameda County, in the southern East Bay between Fremont and Hayward. It covers about twenty square miles and is home to roughly 70,000 people, with Newark and the bay close by. It is known as one of the more diverse communities in the region.
Most of the city is flat and residential, with established single-family neighborhoods, townhome and condo communities, and apartment complexes. Much of the housing sits near the BART station and the major shopping centers, including Union Landing, which draws visitors from across the area. The city is made up of areas that grew from two older communities, Alvarado and Decoto, which still lend their names to parts of town.
Union City is well-connected, with a BART station, major freeways, and easy access to neighboring cities. Open space at nearby Quarry Lakes and the marshlands along the bay give residents room to get outdoors, while the city’s central East Bay location makes commuting and errands straightforward.
The land was home to the Ohlone people for thousands of years before farms and small towns spread across the area in the 1800s. Two communities grew here: Alvarado, which once served as an early seat of Alameda County, and Decoto, a town along the railroad. Alvarado was also home to one of the first beet sugar mills in the country, an important early industry.
For decades, Alvarado and Decoto remained separate towns surrounded by farmland. In 1959, the two communities joined together, along with the area between them, to form the city of Union City, a name that reflected their union.
In the decades since, Union City has grown into a diverse residential suburb, with new housing, shopping centers, and a BART connection drawing residents from across the region. Today it blends its farm-town and rail-town roots with a practical, modern character.
Union City is its own city, and while its flat streets make access easier than in many Bay Area cities, a move here still rewards planning. Much of the housing sits in townhome, condo, and apartment communities, which usually have shared entrances, stairs or elevators, and rules about move-in times. We coordinate access and reserve space ahead of time so the crew is not held up at the door.
The established single-family neighborhoods are more open, with driveways to load from and simple paths, though floors and doorways still need protection on every job. The areas near Union Landing and the other shopping centers carry heavy traffic, especially on weekends, so for moves nearby we plan the timing to avoid the worst of it.
The BART station and the major roads make the city easy to reach, which helps with timing a move, but parking at apartment complexes still needs to be arranged in advance. Across the city, homes of every type call for careful handling, and fragile pieces get a clear plan before the day. Sorting out the building access, the parking, and the timing ahead of time is what keeps a Union City move on schedule.
