The Layout of the City

Los Gatos is a town in Santa Clara County, covering about eleven square miles at the southwestern edge of Silicon Valley. It is home to roughly 33,000 people and sits next to Campbell, Saratoga, Monte Sereno, and San Jose. It is known for its historic downtown and its setting against the foothills.

The center of town is its downtown, a walkable district along Santa Cruz Avenue and North Santa Cruz Avenue lined with shops, restaurants, and well-kept older buildings. Around it sit established neighborhoods, including the historic Old Town area, with Victorian and Craftsman homes on shaded streets. As the land rises to the south and west, the streets climb toward the Santa Cruz Mountains, where homes sit on steep, wooded lots.

Los Gatos also has strong ties to the outdoors, with Vasona Lake County Park, the Los Gatos Creek Trail, and the mountains all close at hand. Highway 17 runs through the edge of town, linking it to San Jose to the north and Santa Cruz over the hill to the south.

A Mountain Town Turned Silicon Valley Address

The land was home to the Ohlone people long before it became part of a Mexican land grant called Rancho Rinconada de los Gatos. The name Los Gatos, meaning the cats, came from the wildcats once common in the surrounding hills. In the mid-1800s, a flour mill rose along the creek, and a small town grew around it.

The arrival of the railroad turned Los Gatos into a shipping point for lumber and fruit and, in time, a mountain resort town that drew visitors up from the valley. The town incorporated in 1887, one of the oldest cities in the county.

Through the twentieth century, Los Gatos grew from a small retreat into an affluent suburb, while keeping its historic downtown intact. Today, it mixes that preserved old-town character with a place in the modern valley, home to residents who work across the technology industry. The town blends its past and present with care.

What a Los Gatos Move Actually Involves

Los Gatos is its own town, and its downtown and its hills shape every move. The downtown is the busiest part, with Santa Cruz Avenue drawing crowds to its restaurants and shops, especially on weekends. For moves near the center, we plan the timing and the truck’s spot ahead so the crew is not stuck circling for parking.

The hillside neighborhoods toward the mountains are a different job. The roads there are narrow and winding, and many homes sit above the street with steep driveways and long approaches. We check the route and the access in advance and bring a truck sized for the road, so nothing gets stuck on the way up.

The older homes near downtown call for care with original floors, doorways, and tight interior spaces, and we protect all of it.
