Growth continued through the twentieth century, and in recent decades the Silicon Forest, anchored by chipmakers in Washington County, drew a new wave of residents. Oregon’s urban growth boundary has kept that growth compact, which is part of why the city’s older neighborhoods stayed dense and intact. That history is the reason a Portland move is never quite the same twice.
