Lakeway Is Built on a Hillside. That Changes the Move.

Lakeway is not a flat grid of streets. It is a master-planned community wrapped around the south shore of Lake Travis. Almost everything that makes it desirable also makes it harder to move. Picture the lakefront homes with private docks. The custom houses on steep limestone lots. The gated neighborhoods like Rough Hollow and Flintrock Falls. The long driveways that climb or drop away from the road. People move here for those features. Those same features are why a Lakeway move takes real planning.

Hillside lots mean steep, curving driveways. A large truck cannot always back down them, so the crew often stages the load. Lakefront homes add stairs down to the water and tight turns around pools and decks. Gated communities need gate codes, guard-gate clearance, and sometimes HOA notice. A custom home on a canyon lot is a different job than a townhome near the Hill Country Galleria.

Royal Moving & Storage works every part of Lakeway. We cover the waterfront estates and the villas near the resort. We look at the property first. We plan for what that lot and street need. Then we arrange the access before moving day.

Our Moving Services in Lakeway

local moving icon

Local Movers

A move from a lakefront house in The Hills to a newer home in Rough Hollow is short on the map. On the ground it still means protecting finishes and managing stair and driveway carries. It also means timing around RM 620 and Highway 71 traffic. We handle that as standard. Our pricing is transparent, with every charge explained up front, so you know the full cost before we load the first box.

Residential Movers

Lakeway homes run from custom lakefront estates and hillside houses to golf-course villas and newer subdivision homes. Each one calls for a different plan. A steep waterfront lot needs a staging plan and extra hands for the stairs. A gated community needs gate clearance and an access window. We assess each Lakeway property on its own terms before moving day.

commercial moving icon

Commercial Movers

The Lake Travis area supports many small businesses. There are medical and dental practices, real estate and financial offices, and retail at the Hill Country Galleria in nearby Bee Cave. When a business moves, downtime is the real cost. We schedule around your hours. We work within building access windows. We move desks, equipment, and electronics fast, so your team is back to work quickly.

long-distance moving icon

Long Distance Movers

The Lake Travis area draws steady relocation from out of state, and some residents move on. When the move leaves Texas, we treat it with the same care as a job across town. Each move gets dedicated transport, a full inventory, a fixed price, and a delivery window you can plan around. We do not broker Lakeway long distance moves to third parties.

Furniture Movers

Our Lakeway crews handle heavy sofas, pianos, antiques, and designer pieces. We wrap, pad, and secure every item for the trip. Premium pads, stretch wrap, floor runners, and door protection come standard. That matters on hillside homes with several levels and long stair carries. Fragile or high-value items get their own handling plan. We agree on it with you before the move.

Storage Services

Lakeway moves often come with a timing gap. A sale may close before the next home is ready. A custom build may run long. A move may happen in stages. Royal Moving & Storage picks up from your Lakeway address, keeps your belongings in a secure climate-controlled facility, and returns them on your schedule.

Lakeway, More Than an Address

Lakeway by the Numbers

Lakeway is a city of about 19,000 people in western Travis County. It sits on the south shore of Lake Travis, in the Texas Hill Country. Downtown Austin is roughly 25 miles east. The city is part of the Lake Travis Independent School District. That district is one of the most sought-after in the region, which keeps family moves into the area steady.

The housing is varied for a city this size. There are waterfront homes with private docks. There are custom houses on steep canyon and limestone lots. There are golf-course villas around the resort courses. And there are newer homes in master-planned neighborhoods like Rough Hollow, Flintrock Falls, and The Hills of Lakeway. Many of these communities are gated. Several sit on hillsides, where driveways are long, steep, and narrow. One feature stands out: the Lakeway Airpark. It is a small residential airport, and some homes back onto the runway. That adds its own access notes to a move.

The area is built around the lake and two main roads, Ranch Road 620 and Highway 71. The Hill Country Galleria in nearby Bee Cave serves as the retail and dining center for the whole Lake Travis community.

The History of the City

The Hill Country west of Austin was ranch and farm land for generations. That was true long before Lake Travis existed. The lake was formed in the late 1930s and early 1940s. The Lower Colorado River Authority built Mansfield Dam on the Colorado River to create it. The dam was one of several Highland Lakes projects that reshaped the region.

Lakeway began as a resort on the new lake in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It was planned around a lodge, a marina, and golf and tennis facilities. These drew visitors from Austin and beyond. The city incorporated in 1963. At first it was a weekend and retirement spot. As Austin grew west, it became a full residential community. The old resort core is now the Lakeway Resort and Spa and the World of Tennis complex. It is still a landmark in the city.

Today Lakeway is an established Hill Country suburb with resort roots. That mix is why moving here rewards a crew that knows hillside lots, lakefront access, and gated neighborhoods.

What a Lakeway Move Actually Involves

The terrain sets the pace in Lakeway. Many homes sit on steep limestone lots with long, curving driveways. A full-size truck cannot always reach the door or turn around. On those properties the crew stages a shuttle. We park on the reachable stretch and carry the load in. That plan has to be set before the day, not found on arrival.

Gated communities add a second layer. Rough Hollow, Flintrock Falls, and The Hills need gate codes or guard-gate clearance for the truck and crew. Some HOAs ask for notice of a move. Others limit the hours when heavy vehicles can be on the streets. Lakefront homes bring stairs down to docks and boathouses. They also bring tight turns around pools and decks, plus finishes we cannot scuff.

We handle all of it before moving day. That means the access plan, the gate and HOA coordination, the truck sizing, and the stair and finish protection. None of it slows the job once we arrive.
