Bastrop Is an Old River Town Growing Fast. Both Halves Shape the Move.

Bastrop is one of the oldest towns in Texas. It is also one of the fastest growing in the Austin metro. Those two facts pull a move in different directions. The historic downtown has narrow streets and old buildings with tight doorways and stairs. The new subdivisions spread east and south along the Colorado River and the Lost Pines. They have wide roads, HOA rules, and homes still settling onto raw lots. A move in one part of Bastrop is a different job than a move in the other.

The older homes near downtown and the river have original finishes, narrow entries, and staircases we cannot scuff. The newer neighborhoods like Tahitian Village, The Colony, and Pecan Park add gate codes, HOA notice, and long approaches. Some of those streets are still under construction. Add the traffic on Highway 71 and Highway 21 on a weekday, and timing matters as much as muscle.

Royal Moving & Storage works every part of Bastrop. We cover the historic core and the river subdivisions. We look at the property first. We plan for what that home and street need. Then we arrange the access before moving day.

Our Moving Services in Bastrop

local moving icon

Local Movers

A move from a historic home near Main Street to a new build in Tahitian Village is short on the map. On the ground it still means protecting finishes and managing stair carries. It also means timing around Highway 71 and the downtown streets. We handle that as standard. Our pricing is transparent, with every charge explained up front, so you know the full cost before we load the first box.

residential moving icon

Residential Movers

Bastrop homes run from historic downtown houses and riverfront properties to new subdivision homes on wooded Lost Pines lots. Each one calls for a different plan. An old home needs door and floor protection and careful handling of original detail. A new build in a gated section needs access clearance and an HOA-friendly time window. We assess each Bastrop property on its own terms before moving day.

commercial moving icon

Commercial Movers

Bastrop has a growing commercial base. There are shops and restaurants around the historic square, medical and professional offices, and industrial and logistics sites east of Austin along Highway 71. When a business moves, downtime is the real cost. We schedule around your hours. We work within building access windows. We move desks, equipment, and electronics fast, so your team is back to work quickly.

long-distance moving icon

Long Distance Movers

Bastrop’s growth brings a steady flow of people in and out of state. When the move leaves Texas, we treat it with the same care as a job across town. Each move gets dedicated transport, a full inventory, a fixed price, and a delivery window you can plan around. We do not broker Bastrop long distance moves to third parties.

Furniture Movers

Our Bastrop crews handle heavy sofas, pianos, antiques, and designer pieces. We wrap, pad, and secure every item for the trip. Premium pads, stretch wrap, floor runners, and door jamb protection come standard. That matters in old homes with narrow doorways and in new builds with finishes you do not want marked. Fragile or high-value items get their own handling plan. We agree on it with you before the move.

Storage Services

Bastrop moves often come with a timing gap. A sale may close before the next home is ready. A new build may run long. A move may happen in stages. Royal Moving & Storage picks up from your Bastrop address, keeps your belongings in a secure climate-controlled facility, and returns them on your schedule.

Bastrop, More Than an Address

Bastrop by the Numbers

Bastrop is the seat of Bastrop County. The city sits on the Colorado River, about 30 miles southeast of downtown Austin along Highway 71. For a long time it was a small county town of around 10,000 to 12,000 people. It is now one of the faster-growing communities in the Austin metro, as employers and residents move east from the city. Its population figures have been climbing quickly.

The housing reflects that split. The historic districts near downtown and the river hold old homes and buildings with narrow entries and original detail. Newer subdivisions add wooded lots, HOA rules, and fresh construction. These include Tahitian Village along the river, The Colony, and Pecan Park. Much of this growth sits within the Lost Pines. That is an isolated stand of loblolly pine that grows here and almost nowhere else in Central Texas. It gives many Bastrop neighborhoods their tree cover and their winding, wooded streets.

The city is built around its historic square and the Colorado River crossing. Highway 71 and Highway 21 are the two main roads. They feed traffic toward Austin to the northwest and the smaller towns to the east and south.

The History of the City

The site was a river crossing on the Old San Antonio Road, the colonial route also known as El Camino Real. That was true long before the town existed. Bastrop was founded in 1832 and named for Baron de Bastrop, a figure tied to the early Anglo settlement of Texas. That makes it one of the oldest towns in the state. It is older than Texas independence itself.

Through the nineteenth century Bastrop grew as a river and lumber town. Builders drew on the pine of the Lost Pines for material and shipped goods along the Colorado. Many buildings from that era still stand in the downtown historic district. That is one reason the town has kept its own character rather than blending into the Austin sprawl.

In the twentieth century Bastrop settled into life as a county seat. It also became a gateway to Bastrop State Park, whose rustic cabins were built in the 1930s and remain in use. In recent years the town has grown fast as Central Texas has expanded. That is why moving here now means handling both delicate historic homes and brand-new subdivisions.

What a Bastrop Move Actually Involves

The two sides of Bastrop each set their own terms. Near the historic downtown and the river, the streets are narrow and some homes are more than a century old. Their doorways, staircases, and finishes are original and easy to damage. Parking a full-size truck close to the door can be tight. The crew plans the approach and protects the home before carrying anything in.

The newer subdivisions bring a different set of demands. Tahitian Village, The Colony, and Pecan Park sit on wooded Lost Pines lots with long or winding approaches. Some sections have gates, HOA notice rules, or streets that are still under construction. New builds also have fresh finishes and floors that need protecting from the first carry.

Traffic is the constant across both. Highway 71 and Highway 21 carry heavy commuter and truck traffic toward Austin. A move timed into the wrong part of the day loses hours on the road. We handle the access plan, the historic-home protection, the HOA and gate coordination, and the truck sizing and timing before moving day. None of it slows the job once we arrive.
