Concord Is the Heart of Contra Costa. That Shapes the Move.

Concord is the largest city in Contra Costa County, a suburban hub built around Todos Santos Plaza and connected to the rest of the Bay Area by two BART stations and the I-680 corridor. It sits at the foot of Mt. Diablo, so the terrain runs from flat, gridded neighborhoods near downtown to hillier streets as you climb toward the mountain. It is also one of the more affordable places to own a home in the inner East Bay, which keeps families and commuters moving in.

That mix shapes a move here. A condo or townhome near the Concord BART station is a quick, tight-access job. An established single-family home off Ygnacio Valley Road is a straightforward suburban move. A hillside house toward Clayton or the Mt. Diablo foothills brings slopes, steps, and narrower streets. And nearly every summer move here happens in real heat, since inland Concord runs well warmer than San Francisco.

Royal Moving & Storage works every part of Concord. We look at the property first, plan for the access and the weather, then arrange the details before moving day.

Our Moving Services in Concord

Local Movers

A move within Concord or across Contra Costa is our most common job. We handle the flat neighborhoods near downtown and the hillier streets toward Mt. Diablo, and we plan around the summer heat with early starts when it helps. Our pricing is transparent, with every charge explained up front, so you know the full cost before we load the first box.

Residential Movers

Concord homes run from BART-close condos and townhomes to established single-family houses and hillside properties near the foothills. Each calls for a different plan. A hillside home needs care on the steps and the driveway. A downtown condo needs coordinated parking and elevator access. We assess each Concord property on its own terms before the day.

Commercial Movers

Concord anchors a good deal of Contra Costa’s business activity, from offices near the BART corridor to retail around Todos Santos Plaza and the Willow Pass area. When a business moves, downtime is the real cost. We schedule around your hours, work within building access windows, and move desks, equipment, and electronics quickly so your team is back to work fast.

long-distance moving icon

Long Distance Movers

Concord sees steady relocation in and out of the Bay Area. When a move leaves California, we treat it with the same care as a job across town. Each move gets dedicated transport, a full inventory, a price in writing, and a delivery window you can plan around. We do not hand Concord long distance moves to third parties.

Furniture Movers

Our Concord crews handle heavy sofas, pianos, antiques, and large pieces. We pad, wrap, and secure each item, with moving blankets, stretch wrap, floor runners, and door protection as standard. That matters on hillside homes with steps and on older houses with tight interior turns. Fragile or high-value pieces get their own handling plan, agreed with you before the move.

Storage Services

Concord moves often come with a gap in timing. A sale may close before the next place is ready, or a move may happen in stages. Royal Moving & Storage collects from your Concord address, keeps your belongings in a secure facility, and returns them on your schedule.

Concord, More Than an Address

Concord by the Numbers

Concord is the largest city in Contra Costa County, with more than 120,000 residents in the inner East Bay, about 30 miles from San Francisco. It grew from a 19th-century farming town into a major suburban center, and it now serves as a commercial and transit hub for the surrounding area. Two BART stations, Concord and North Concord/Martinez, connect it to Oakland, San Francisco, and the wider system, and the I-680 freeway and Highway 4 carry the rest of the traffic. The city sits within the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.

The housing reflects that suburban history. There are established single-family neighborhoods laid out in the postwar decades, condos and townhomes near the BART corridor, and newer construction, including the large redevelopment underway on the former Concord Naval Weapons Station. The city is organized around Todos Santos Plaza, its downtown square, which hosts a farmers market and summer concerts, with the slopes of Mt. Diablo rising to the south and east.

The History of the City

The area was part of a Mexican land grant before American settlers founded the town of Todos Santos in 1869, on land laid out around the plaza that still anchors downtown. The name soon changed to Concord. For its early decades it was an agricultural community, shipping grain and produce.

Concord grew quickly after World War II, as the East Bay suburbanized and the Naval Weapons Station brought jobs and people. BART’s arrival cemented it as a commuter hub for the region. Today Concord is an established, family-oriented suburb and the commercial center of central Contra Costa, which is exactly why moving here rewards a crew that knows its neighborhoods, its hills, and its summers.

What a Concord Move Actually Involves

Two things shape a Concord move more than anything: the terrain and the heat. The flat neighborhoods near downtown are straightforward, but as you move toward Clayton and the Mt. Diablo foothills, streets get hillier and driveways steeper, which calls for care on the stairs and thought about where the truck parks. Older established homes can have tight interior staircases and turns that slow the carry.

The climate is the other factor. Concord summers are genuinely hot, well warmer than the coast, so a July move goes better with an early-morning start before the afternoon peak. Our crews plan for it with water, pacing, and timing. Near the BART stations and in condo communities, we coordinate parking and elevator access in advance so the crew is not held up on arrival.

We handle all of it before the day: the access plan, the truck placement, the heat timing, and the protection of floors and finishes. None of it slows the job once we arrive.
