Moving to Woodland Hills? Here is what you can expect once you get to Woodland Hills.

Woodland Hills, California is an affluent neighborhood in northern Los Angeles. The neighborhood community is located in the San Fernando Valley on the edge of the Santa Monica Mountains. It shares a border with Calabasas, Tarzana, and Topanga, while being close to the Malibu beaches.

Woodland Hills is a beautifully lush and landscaped area with great places to walk, jog, hike, or bike, while enjoying nature or the neighborhoods curvy, tree-lined streets. Those trees that come in the thousands provide the community with its name. Woodland Hills is also a great place to shop, grab a bite to eat, or catch some live entertainment. In particular, on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills, you will find energetic bars, unique gastropubs, delicious food, and live music.

Nearly 65,000 people live in Woodland Hills, an area that is 14.77 square miles. There is not a lot of diversity in the neighborhood community, as most of the residents are white with a median age of 40. The median household income is $89,946.

The area the encompasses Woodland Hills was within the town of Girard in the 1920s. Girard was an ambitious subdivision created by Victor Girard, who was both a visionary, and by all accounts, a scoundrel, who would do just about anything to get rich and get what he wanted.

Girard was a land developer, who saw great potential in the agricultural fields in southwestern San Fernando Valley. In 1907, at only 26, Girard finished his first subdivision in the West Adams neighborhood at Jefferson Street and Sixth Avenue. He then opened a subdivision on Crenshaw Boulevard between Venice Boulevard and Adams Street.  In 1922, he then purchased a section of land in the southwest corner of the valley, and created a community that offered "small hillside country estates."

This community, with 6,822 lots on 2,866 acres, he named after himself, and he wanted it to be special. Therefore, he planted 120,000 sycamores, eucalyptus, fir pine, and pepper trees across the new town. He then constructed a town center with Moorish-inspired buildings and towers at the corner of Topanga Canyon and Ventura Boulevards. However, many of the buildings were nothing more than false storefronts and empty buildings, which gave the illusion of a busy downtown, in order to peak the interest of lot buyers. The town of Girard opened for business in 1923.

Lots sold, homes were built, and the town flourished until the Stock Market Crash of 1929, and by 1932, only 75 families remained because the others couldn't afford their mortgages. Even Girard's development company folded because of the difficult times.

When the Great Depression ended, the community's trees were fully matured, adding a unique and natural beauty to the area that folks could not resist. Hoping to erase the memory of the bad times, the community's name was changed to Woodland Hills. After World War II, the town was bustling again, as people flocked to the area to celebrate good times and a solid economy.
