Moving to Rolling Hills Estates? Here is what you can expect once you get to Rolling Hills Estates.

On September 18, 1957, Rolling Hills Estates became Los Angeles County’s 60th municipality. In that first year of "official" legitimacy as a city, Rolling Hills Estates had a population of 3,500. The citizenry of the beautiful community were deeply concerned with keeping the city's rural atmosphere that consisted of an equestrian lifestyle, rolling hills, white fences, bridle trails, and vast open spaces.

The citizens of Rolling Hills Estates were also interested in annexing neighboring areas to give the new city more space, so they did just that. In 1959, Rolling Hills Estates added Montecillo, Chandler Quarry, Country Club Estates, and northern Masongate to the east and west. Furthermore, from 1960 and 1966, Rolling Hills Estates annexed Harbor Sight, Ranch, Rolling Hills Park Estates, Highridge, Hillcrest Manor, Hillcrest Meadows, Terraces, and Cresta Verdes, along the Peninsula Center and the development and research land behind the Northrop Corporation. In addition, in 1982, the city added the site of the former Palos Verdes Landfill.

Today, Rolling Hills Estates consists of 30 neighborhoods within the community, and each one has its own unique personality, as well as architectural style, and governing Homeowners’ Association. Rolling Hills Estates has a current population of 8,206 people, who make an astounding median household income of $129,728. Also astounding is the median property value of $1.1 million. The population of Rolling Hills Estates consists of a citizenry that is 52.6 percent white, 30.3 percent Asian, and 9.9 percent Hispanic.

While the community has undergone many changes throughout the years, Rolling Hills Estates continues to offer the basic ideals that the original “incorporating pioneers” had in mind when they want to create a rural escape, but also offer modern faculties and services. The lifestyle also includes a mile-long commercial district for the citizens of Rolling Hills Estates that includes open-air shopping plazas, an innovative movie theater, an ice rink, many specialty restaurants, along with popular national retailers and local merchants.
