The story of Chatsworth is quintessential California. Its history began with the Tongva-Fernandeno, Chumash-Venturano and Tataviam-Fernandeno Native Americans, who occupied the Los Angeles region about 8,000 years. When the Spanish arrived in 1769, they Christianized the region until Mexico declared independence in 1821.

Chatsworth endured as a town from early days because of its geographically proximity to the Santa Susana Pass, which was a stagecoach stop between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The prosperous agriculturally rich town became a part of the City of Los Angeles in 1915.  After World War I, Chatsworth gained international fame for its superior production of oranges, lemons, grapes, figs, and thoroughbred horse population.

Furthermore, the Chatworth’s beautiful landscape and close proximity to Hollywood made it a popular set location for movies. In fact, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are both buried in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery, which is nearby.

After World War I, the population grew in Chatsworth, fueled by industrial development that moved into the region after rocket tests in Santa Susana. Today, Chatsworth has seven public and eight private schools, large open-space recreational parks, along with smaller ones, a public library, and a transportation center. Furthermore, in Chatsworth, you will find Chatsworth Reservoir, the Santa Susana Field Laboratory, and the Iverson Movie Ranch, a 500-acre rural area that became the most filmed movie ranch in history, which included more than 2,000 productions.
