The Los Angeles neighborhood of Bel Air was created in 1923 by the subdivision of a large ranch. Comprised of 6.73 square miles, it has a population estimated at 8, 253 in 2008 making it the community with the least population density in all of Los Angeles County. It has always been a very affluent area and it and the neighborhoods of Beverly Hills and Holmby Hills makes up the region known as the platinum triangle. As if that wasn’t enough, Bel Air is blessed with a Mediterranean climate and warm summers that makes outdoor living possible almost all year round.
Bel Air has it all. In addition to beautiful homes and landscaping, the neighborhood has great schools. Every one of the three public schools has a 10/10 API (Academic Performance Index) rating, showing them to be pockets of academic excellence. There are also 10 private schools for those who prefer that their children attend a private school. Higher education is easily accessible from the neighborhood. UCLA is adjacent to an eastern entrance into the area. It is also home to the acclaimed American Jewish University established in 1947.
The area also has excellent shopping and the community includes areas of interest including the Bel Air Hotel, Bel Air Country Club and the Stone Canyon Reservoir.
In these times people must be concerned about the crime rate in the area where they choose to live with their families. Bel-Air has a lower crime rate than adjacent areas. In fact, AreaVibes gave Bel Air an all-around livability rating of 81 and a B+ when it came to crime. LAPD shows in the first six months of 2016, the crime level in Bel Air was 65 per 10,000 people and of those 51 were property crimes and 3 were violent crimes (assault).
